Play D-Day - The Beginning of the End Online

You command a ragtag squad across Normandy’s grid—flanking bunkers, dodging artillery, and learning fast that charging headfirst turns your troops into pixelated history. Those tinny beeps and chunky graphics somehow make every decision feel heavy.

Game Overview

D-Day: The Beginning of the End came out in 1994 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Impressions Games. It was a turn-based strategy title from an era when many war games were still figuring out how to balance complexity with accessibility on home computers. You take control of Allied forces during the Normandy invasion, moving unit by unit across a hex-based map of the French coastline.

You direct squads of infantry, armor, and specialized units to secure objectives like bunkers and bridges while managing limited reinforcements. The game emphasizes careful positioning, line of sight, and combined arms tactics; rushing forward usually ends with your men cut down by machine guns or artillery. The pacing is deliberate, and the learning curve can be steep, especially when dealing with unpredictable enemy counterattacks. It feels like solving a deadly, ever-shifting puzzle where every move has consequences.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
