Danball Senki W came out on the PlayStation Portable in 2012, developed by Level-5. It was one of those solid, late-era PSP titles that really made the most of the hardware, offering a deep customization system wrapped in a fun, accessible package.

You control a young pilot who builds and customizes small robots called LBX, then takes them into turn-based tactical battles on grid-based maps. The main goal is to progress through the story, defeat rival pilots, and uncover a larger conspiracy. Key mechanics include assembling your robot from hundreds of parts (each affecting stats and appearance), positioning units strategically to exploit terrain and facing, and using special attacks that consume energy. The pacing is brisk, with short battles that still require thoughtful planning, and the difficulty gradually increases without becoming overwhelming. It feels satisfying to see a robot you built yourself succeed in combat.
