Play Darius Online
Dodge mechanical sea monsters in a silver spaceship, picking your path after each level—some routes hit way harder than others. That triple-screen arcade cab must’ve been insane back in the day.

Darius came out in arcades in 1986 from Taito, a time when developers were really pushing the hardware to create more ambitious and visually distinct shooters. It stood out immediately because of its unique three-screen cabinet, which gave you an unusually wide view of the aquatic alien world you were flying through. The setting itself was a departure from the typical deep space battles, opting instead for a strange, oceanic theme filled with mechanical sea life that felt both alien and familiar.
You pilot the Silver Hawk, a sleek fighter, through branching stages, each ending with a massive robotic boss based on a form of marine life. Your main weapons are forward shots and bombs dropped downward, but collecting power-ups from certain enemies is key to survival; these upgrades enhance your firepower with options like twin lasers, rear shots, or protective orbs. The game is notoriously difficult, with intricate enemy patterns and bullet-filled screens that demand precise movement and memorization. Choosing your path after each level adds a layer of strategy, as some routes are significantly more punishing than others. It feels tense and demanding, a constant test of your reflexes and route knowledge just to see what strange new boss awaits.
