Dark Seal 2 came out in arcades in 1992, developed and published by Data East. It was part of that wave of fantasy-themed beat 'em ups and dungeon crawlers that showed up alongside games like Dungeons & Dragons and Golden Axe, but it had its own look and feel. You control one of four characters, like a warrior or a wizard, and move through levels packed with monsters. Your main goal is to clear each screen of enemies before moving to the next, collecting gold and items along the way. The combat is straightforward; you have a basic attack and magic spells that you can unleash once you've built up enough mana. The pacing is fast, and the screen gets crowded quickly, so you're always managing space and timing your special moves. It feels frantic but satisfying when you pull off a big spell and wipe out a whole group at once.
