Game Overview

Death Gate came out in 1994 for MS-DOS, developed by Legend Entertainment. It was part of that wave of mid-90s adventure games that relied heavily on story and puzzle solving, with a strong literary feel thanks to its source material from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's novels.

You control Haplo, an agent sent to explore four broken worlds, each based on an element like fire or water. The main goal is to restore balance by solving intricate rune-based puzzles, gathering items, and interacting with characters through a text parser. Movement is screen by screen, and the magic system requires you to combine runes thoughtfully rather than just selecting spells from a menu. The pacing is deliberate, with a difficulty that rewards careful observation and logic. It feels like slowly unraveling a deep and atmospheric fantasy novel through your own actions.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
