Diddy Kong Racing DS is one of those games that makes you forget you're holding a tiny handheld. You start by picking your racer—Diddy Kong, obviously, but Banjo and Conker are solid choices too—then jump into these wild, colorful tracks that feel way bigger than they should on the DS screen. The hovercraft handles like a dream over water, and the plane sections? Surprisingly not terrible.
What I didn’t expect was how much the power-ups change things. You’re not just drifting around corners—you’re timing missile shots or dropping bananas like some kind of kart-racing tactician. The single-player adventure mode’s got this weirdly charming story about an evil pig, and the boss races actually make you sweat a little. It’s the kind of game where you mean to play one quick race and suddenly it’s been an hour.
Still holds up as one of the best racers on the DS, especially if you’ve got a friend for multiplayer. Just don’t blame me when someone throws a blue shell at the finish line.
