Donkey Kong Land 2 is one of those Game Boy gems that somehow squeezes a full console-like adventure into your pocket. You play as Diddy and Dixie Kong—switching between them on the fly—trying to rescue Donkey Kong from Kaptain K. Rool (who, let’s be honest, really needs to find a better hobby).

The levels are packed with those classic DK platforming moments: bouncing off enemies, grabbing barrels to blast through walls, and collecting bananas like they’re going out of style. The pre-rendered 3D models give it a chunky, almost toy-like look that’s weirdly charming—like someone took a Super Nintendo game and shrunk it down just right.

What I love is how different the two Kongs feel. Dixie’s hair spin gives her this floaty jump that makes tricky sections way less stressful, while Diddy’s speed is perfect when you just want to zip through. And yeah, you’ll definitely faceplant into a few enemies before getting the hang of it.
