Dr. Mario & Puzzle League (E) is one of those GBA carts that gives you two solid puzzle games for the price of one. The Dr. Mario half feels familiar if you've played older versions—dropping pills to match colors and clear viruses, with that same slightly frantic energy when the board starts filling up. The versus mode is fun if you can find someone to link up with.
Puzzle League is the real surprise though. It's fast, way faster than I expected. The tiles creep up relentlessly, and you're constantly scrambling to line up matches before they hit the top. The lack of Nintendo characters is a little odd, but the core gameplay holds up. The puzzle mode especially makes you think in ways the other modes don't.
Both games have that classic "just one more try" pull, even if the presentation is pretty barebones. Dr. Mario & Puzzle League (E) is the kind of cart you keep in your GBA for quick sessions when you're waiting around.
