Dragon Ball: Shen Long no Nazo is that rough-around-the-edges NES game from 1986 where you get to be Goku before he could even fly properly. You’re mostly punching goons in a side-scroller, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about watching his power level creep up between fights—even if the leveling system feels a bit random at first.

The sprites are tiny and the controls take some getting used to (good luck nailing that Kamehameha every time), but it’s got this scrappy charm. One minute you’re brawling through the Red Ribbon Army’s mooks, the next you’re getting wrecked by Piccolo unless you’ve been grinding those power-ups.
