Play Dragon Buster (Japan) Online
Swing your sword through clunky but charming dungeons, double-jumping past skeletons and taking down dragons in this rough-but-lovable NES relic. The chiptune soundtrack slaps while you chip away at enemies.
Dragon Buster came out for the NES in 1984, developed by Namco. It was one of those early action games that felt a bit experimental, trying to blend platforming and dungeon crawling before many conventions were set in stone. You could tell it was pushing what the system could do at the time, even if it wasn't always smooth.
You control a knight named Clovis, moving screen by screen through maze-like dungeons, fighting monsters with your sword. The main goal is to rescue the princess by defeating dragons, but you spend a lot of time just trying to survive the layouts and enemy patterns. Two mechanics stand out: a double jump that gives some freedom in platforming, and a life bar that lets you take a few hits before dying. The pacing is slow and deliberate, with careful exploration needed to avoid cheap deaths. It feels like a thoughtful, sometimes frustrating grind where every small victory matters.
