Dragon Force is one of those Saturn games that makes you wonder why more people don’t talk about it. You pick one of six rulers (with two more unlocked later) trying to unite Legendra—except there’s this whole ancient evil lurking in the background that nobody’s paying attention to yet. Classic setup, but the way it plays out is anything but.

Most of your time is split between managing your kingdom—assigning generals, recruiting troops, dealing with prisoners—and leading armies across this gorgeous, colorful map. When two armies clash, it shifts to this wild real-time battle where hundreds of little soldiers just go at it. Watching your archers pick off enemy knights or your samurai cut through foot soldiers never gets old. And if things get desperate, your general can challenge the enemy leader to a one-on-one duel, which feels way more dramatic than it has any right to.

The coolest part? Every kingdom has its own specialty troops with unique abilities. Fandaria’s knights bulldoze through infantry, while the Shinobi Kingdom’s ninjas are sneaky but fragile. Figuring out how to counter each army’s strengths becomes this satisfying puzzle. Just don’t get too comfortable—that “ancient evil” doesn’t stay buried forever.
