Dragon Knight 4 is one of those weird, late-era SNES RPGs that never made it outside Japan—probably because it’s got some… let’s say "questionable" anime tropes. But if you can look past that, it’s actually a pretty solid dungeon crawler with turn-based combat and a surprisingly dark story.

You start off as this knight named Rance (yeah, that guy) who’s basically on a revenge mission after his kingdom gets wrecked. The combat’s straightforward—pick attacks, spells, or items—but the real hook is how your choices actually shape the story. Some decisions lock you out of entire routes, which I totally messed up my first playthrough.

Fair warning: the pixel art’s great, but the tone bounces between serious drama and ridiculous fan service. If you’re into old-school JRPGs with branching paths, it’s worth a look—just maybe not with kids around.
