Game Overview

Dragon Quest IV on the DS is one of those RPGs that just sticks with you. At first, you jump between different characters—a merchant, a soldier, even a princess—each with their own little story that eventually ties into this big, sprawling quest. The chapter system feels fresh, especially when you realize how everyone’s paths cross later on.

Combat’s classic turn-based stuff, but the AI tactics (they call it "Tactics") actually work surprisingly well if you don’t feel like micromanaging every fight. And the monster designs? Still charming as ever—slimes, dragons, the whole gang. The DS version adds some nice quality-of-life tweaks, like touch controls and a party chat feature that fleshes out the characters way more than the original NES release.

It’s got that old-school grind if you’re into that, but the pacing keeps things moving. You’ll probably get attached to at least one of the weirdos in your party by the end.
