Dragon Slayer: Eiyuu Densetsu II came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed by Nihon Falcom. It was part of that wave of action RPGs that tried to blend exploration with faster combat, a step away from the slower, menu-heavy games of the time. You control a lone hero, moving screen by screen through an overworld and into multi-level dungeons. Your main goal is to gather the scattered pieces of the Triforce (or a similar artifact, depending on the version) to ultimately challenge a dragon. Combat happens in real time; you swing your sword or shoot arrows at monsters that roam each area. The game doesn’t hold your hand, hidden switches, sudden enemy ambushes, and limited health make progress feel earned. It’s a methodical, sometimes unforgiving adventure that rewards careful exploration. Playing it feels like charting unknown territory with just a sword and your wits.
