DragonStrike came out in 1990 from Strategic Simulations, Inc. for MS-DOS, a time when flight sims and fantasy games were finding their footing on home computers. It stood out by putting you directly in the saddle of a dragon, a concept that felt ambitious even if the tech was still catching up.
You control a dragon rider, issuing commands to your mount as you complete missions across a fantasy landscape. The main objective is to defeat enemy forces, which involves strafing ground troops with fire, engaging in dogfights with rival dragons, and occasionally protecting allied units. Signature mechanics include a first-person cockpit view during flight, real time tactical movement across an overhead map, and direct control during combat sequences. The pacing is deliberate, with missions requiring careful positioning and resource management, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush in unprepared. It feels like being part of a chaotic, low-altitude air war where every banking turn and burst of flame matters.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
