Game Overview

Empire! came out in 1987 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Interstel Corporation. It was a turn based strategy game from an era when complex simulations were starting to find a home on personal computers, demanding patience and long term planning from players who were used to simpler arcade style action.

You control a fledgling empire, starting with a single city and a handful of military units on a large grid based map of the world. Your main objective is to conquer all other rival empires through economic management, city development, and tactical military movement. Signature mechanics include managing city production to build armies and infrastructure, moving land, sea, and air units across varied terrain that affects movement costs, and engaging in combat resolved through dice roll calculations. The pacing is deliberately slow, and the difficulty is punishing; a single miscalculation in unit placement or resource allocation can lead to a swift and irreversible collapse. It feels like a relentless chess match where the board is the entire world and every move has weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
