Play Escape from Markana Online

You wake up in a pixelated maze, clicking through shadowy rooms, tugging at levers and staring at paintings until some weird detail finally clicks. That creaking door sound still follows me.

Game Overview

Escape from Markana is one of those MS-DOS games that somehow slipped under the radar back in the day—which is a shame, because it nails that perfect mix of eerie atmosphere and brain-teasing puzzles. You wake up in this weird, maze-like world with no explanation, and suddenly you're clicking through dimly lit rooms, trying to figure out why that painting looks slightly off or what that rusted lever actually does.

It’s got that classic pixelated look, but don’t let the simplicity fool you. Some of the puzzles are downright devious—I remember getting stuck for ages on a riddle involving a broken sundial and a bunch of scattered notes. No hints, no glowing arrows, just you and your own stubbornness. The sound design is minimal but effective—mostly creaking doors and distant echoes—which just makes the whole thing feel even more isolating.

If you’re into games where every little detail might matter (or if you just miss the days of scribbling down clues on actual paper), this one’s a blast. Just be ready to second-guess everything.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
