Game Overview

Extreme Skate Adventure came out on Game Boy Advance in 2003, published by Activision. It was part of that wave of handheld skateboarding games that tried to capture the feel of console titles like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, but scaled down for the small screen. You could tell developers were really pushing what the GBA could do with 3D-style environments and smooth animation, even if it was all built from sprites.

You control one of several kid skaters, including characters from Toy Story and The Incredibles, skating through themed levels based on those movies. The main goal is to complete objectives, like collecting letters or hitting specific gaps, to progress. Signature mechanics include pulling off trick combos by chaining grinds, manuals, and flips, as well as exploring multi-tiered levels with plenty of hidden areas. The pacing is fast, and the controls take some practice to feel precise, but once you get the timing down, landing a long combo string feels genuinely satisfying. It captures that arcade skate vibe where repetition leads to smooth, fluid runs.
