I picked up The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift for the PSP back in 2006, a time when handheld racing games were really finding their footing. Developed by Eutechnyx and published by Namco Bandai, it was one of those licensed titles that tried to capture the vibe of the movie while working within the limits of the hardware. It wasn't trying to be a simulation; it was a straightforward arcade racer built for quick sessions on the go.

You play as an unnamed driver thrown into Tokyo's underground racing scene, working your way up by winning events and earning respect. The main goal is to climb the ranks, unlock better cars, and master the art of drifting around sharp, narrow corners. Signature mechanics include initiating and maintaining drifts using a combination of gas and brake taps, as well as drafting behind opponents to slingshot past them. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike suddenly when you misjudge a turn or get boxed in by rivals. It feels tense and rewarding when you finally chain a perfect series of drifts without wiping out.
