Game Overview

Fatal Labyrinth came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed and published by Sega. It was one of those early console attempts at a dungeon crawler, a genre that was more common on computers at the time. The game didn't have the flash of some other Genesis titles, but it had a certain grim persistence that made it memorable for players looking for a challenge.

You control a knight sent to retrieve a stolen Holy Grail from the depths of a massive, 30-floor dungeon. Movement is turn-based and grid-based; every step you take allows enemies to move or attack, so hesitation gets you killed. You explore room by room, fighting monsters with swords, axes, or bows you find along the way, but equipment breaks easily and food is scarce, forcing constant tension. The pacing is slow and deliberate, with death waiting behind every corner, and it feels like a desperate, lonely struggle for survival where every small victory matters.
