Game Overview

Fighter’s Destiny on the N64 flips the script on fighting games—instead of just knocking your opponent out, you win by scoring points. Land clean hits, pull off throws, or even ring-outs, and the game tallies it all up. At first, it feels weird not just brawling until someone’s health hits zero, but after a few matches, you start playing smarter, angling for those high-scoring moves.

The roster’s got some wild picks, like a sumo wrestler who can pancake you or a kung fu girl with lightning-fast kicks. Took me a while to settle on a main (ended up with the samurai—his counter moves are brutal). Matches get tense when you’re both one good hit away from victory, and the announcer’s yelling “FINAL POINT!” in that grainy N64 voice.

It’s not as flashy as some other fighters from the era, but the strategy here makes up for it. You’ll catch yourself grinning when you pull off a last-second throw to steal the round.
