Game Overview

Fishing Derby on the Atari 2600 is one of those simple-but-tense two-player games where you’re both frantically trying to reel in fish before the other guy. You control a little fishing line, dropping it deeper for bigger catches—but the deeper you go, the slower you reel back up. And of course, there’s a shark patrolling the waters that’ll snatch your fish right off the hook if you’re not careful.

It’s hilarious watching your opponent lose their haul to the shark, but then you panic when it turns toward your line. The two-player mode is where it really shines—the computer’s fine, but nothing beats the chaos of racing a friend to 99 pounds of fish. Just don’t get greedy going for the big ones, or you’ll regret it.
