Flintstones Surprise at Dinosaur Peak came out for the NES in 1994, developed by Taito. It was a late release for the system, arriving when many players were already moving on to newer consoles. The game features Fred and Barney in a side scrolling adventure, with colorful, detailed sprites that pushed the aging hardware.
You control either Fred or Barney, each with unique abilities; Fred uses a club for close combat, while Barney attacks from a distance with his slingshot. The goal is to rescue the kids, Pebbles and Bamm Bamm, who have been carried off by a pterodactyl. You explore levels screen by screen, jumping across platforms, avoiding dinosaurs and lava pits, and collecting items like bones and gems. The game is known for its high difficulty, with precise jumps and relentless enemies. It feels challenging but fair, rewarding patience and careful timing.
