Game Overview

Were Back: A Dinosaur's Story came out on the Super Nintendo in 1993, published by Hi Tech Expressions. It was based on the animated film, and like a lot of movie tie-ins from that era, it had a certain charm but didn't always get the attention of the bigger platformers.

You play as Rex, the T-Rex from the movie, navigating side-scrolling levels to rescue your dino friends. The main goal is to progress through each stage, which involves a lot of jumping across gaps, chomping on enemy cavemen, and breaking open eggs to collect power-ups. Your dinosaur companions occasionally join in, offering special abilities; for instance, Dweeb can use his long neck to attack from a distance. The pacing is fairly quick, though some jumps feel a bit unforgiving, and enemy placement can make certain sections tricky. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes messy, run and chomp adventure.
