Game Overview

Fortified Zone on the Game Boy is one of those rare action games where you actually have to think before running in guns blazing. You control two commandos—Masato, the heavy weapons guy, and Mizuki, who’s way more agile—and swap between them on the fly. Masato can wreck enemies with grenades and flamethrowers, but Mizuki’s the only one who can jump over pits and barriers. You’ll need both to survive.

The jungle mission starts tense: patrols everywhere, limited ammo, and if you alert too many guards at once, it’s game over. I remember creeping through the first stage, picking off stragglers with silenced pistols before realizing I could just lure enemies into traps. By the last stage, you’re dodging robots and turrets while trying not to burn through all your rockets. It’s tough, but figuring out when to switch characters keeps it satisfying.
