Game Overview

Franco Baresi World Cup Kick Off came out in 1989 for the Amiga, developed by Anco and published by Virgin Games. It was one of those early soccer titles that tried to capture the feel of the sport with more speed and responsiveness than many of its contemporaries. The game arrived at a time when the Amiga was establishing itself as a platform for more dynamic and visually polished games, and this one fit right into that ambition.

You control a team of players, moving them around the field with the joystick, passing, tackling, and shooting toward the opponent's goal. The main objective is to win matches, either in single games or through a full tournament mode. Signature mechanics include a through-pass system that lets you send the ball ahead into open space, and a sliding tackle that, while effective, can easily result in a foul if mistimed. The pacing is quick, almost frantic, and the difficulty can be punishing, especially against skilled human opponents in two-player mode. It feels fast and direct, with a satisfying sense of control when you string together a good play.
