Play Gaia Gensouki (Japan) Online
You play as Will, swinging swords and dodging attacks in real-time while NPCs go about their lives—until that comet shows up and things get weird. The combat feels stiff at first, but once it clicks, you’ll be chaining spells and barely scraping through brutal dungeons.

Gaia Gensouki is one of those hidden SNES gems that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this weirdly charming mix of action-RPG combat and a story that starts simple (kid saves the world from a comet, sure) but gets surprisingly deep. You play as Will, swinging swords and casting spells in real-time battles while exploring towns that actually feel alive, with NPCs who have their own little dramas going on.
The combat’s a bit clunky at first—you’ll fumble with the controls until it clicks—but once you get the hang of chaining attacks and dodging, it’s weirdly satisfying. And the soundtrack? Absolute bangers, especially the overworld theme. Just don’t expect a breezy playthrough—some of those late-game dungeons will test your patience (and your reflexes).
If you’re into retro action-RPGs with personality, this one’s worth dusting off the fan translations for.
