Gladiator came out in 1995 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, published by Domark. It was a straightforward fighting game for its time, focused on one-on-one combat without the complex stories or large rosters of other titles from that era. You just picked a warrior and got right to it.
You control a gladiator from a side view, moving left and right across a single screen arena to attack your opponent with a sword, a bow, or your fists. The main goal is to deplete the other fighter's health bar before they deplete yours. Key mechanics include timing your blocks to set up counterattacks and managing your limited supply of arrows if you choose the bow. The pacing is fast, and the AI can be punishing, making each match feel tense and immediate. It feels like a pure, concentrated test of reflexes and timing.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
