Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the DS is one of those rare handheld games that actually feels like the real deal. You start off as Huang Lee, a spoiled rich kid who quickly gets thrown into Liberty City’s underworld after a botched delivery. The top-down view takes some getting used to if you’re coming from the 3D GTAs, but the touchscreen stuff—like hotwiring cars by rubbing the stylus—is weirdly satisfying.
What surprised me was how deep it gets. You’re not just shooting your way through missions—there’s drug dealing, gang wars, even molotov cocktails you can whip up from gas stations. The writing’s sharp too, full of that classic GTA dark humor. And yeah, it’s still chaotic as hell—ram a cop car, and suddenly you’ve got three stars while trying to dodge traffic in a stolen ice cream truck.
It’s probably the most underrated GTA game, mostly because people slept on the DS version. But if you’ve got a soft spot for Liberty City’s brand of chaos, this one’s worth digging up.
