Guerrilla War came out in 1987 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a port of SNK's arcade title. It arrived during a period when top-down shooters were common, offering a straightforward, action-heavy experience without much pretense.
You control one of two rebel fighters, moving through jungles and military bases, clearing each screen of enemy soldiers and vehicles. Your main goal is to overthrow a dictator by fighting through numerous stages, rescuing hostages for extra points and firepower along the way. Signature mechanics include dual-stick style shooting (with separate movement and aiming), using limited grenades to clear clustered enemies or tanks, and the constant pressure of respawning foes. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty climbs quickly, demanding quick reflexes and careful grenade management. It feels like a tense, explosive sprint where every screen cleared is a small victory.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
