Game Overview

Heimdall Disk1 came out on the Amiga in 1991, developed by Core Design and published by Virgin Games. It was part of that wave of isometric action RPGs that tried to push what the system could do, offering a big world to get lost in without the flashiness of some other titles from that year.

You control Heimdall, a Norse god tasked with gathering weapons and allies to stop Ragnarok. The game plays out across dozens of islands, each screen a self-contained area to explore. You recruit companions by completing tasks for them, and their effectiveness in combat depends on how well you perform in little minigames that test their attributes. Progress is slow and deliberate, with a lot of backtracking and careful management of your growing party. It feels like a thoughtful, sometimes plodding adventure where every new ally or item found is a hard-won victory.
