Play Heimdall Online

You play a Viking kid proving yourself in bizarre trials—chop braids with axes, hunt boars—then sail with a crew of six to reclaim stolen god weapons, swapping party members between islands. The isometric view makes even troll fights look oddly charming.

Game Overview

Heimdall came out in 1991 from The 8th Day, a game that fit right in with the kind of exploratory, isometric action-adventures that were finding an audience on MS-DOS. It didn't try to push the hardware to its limits, but it had a distinct look and a premise that felt different from the typical fantasy or sci-fi fare of the time.

You control a young Viking named Heimdall, tasked with gathering a crew and recovering the gods' stolen weapons. Gameplay involves exploring islands screen by screen, solving environmental puzzles, and engaging in real-time combat with a sword. You manage a party of characters, each with unique skills, swapping them in as needed for specific tasks. The pacing is deliberate, with a fair amount of backtracking and resource management, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if you rush. It feels like a thoughtful, sometimes clunky, but always earnest adventure where every small victory matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
