Play Heroes of the Lance Online
Control a party of eight, explore dungeons, fight monsters, solve puzzles, and recover the Disks of Mishakal in this 1988 Sega Master System adventure.
Heroes of the Lance came out for the Sega Master System in 1988, published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. It was one of the few games on the platform that tried to adapt the Dragonlance setting, a fantasy world with its own novels and lore. At the time, it stood out for its party-based approach in an era dominated by simpler action titles.
You control a party of eight characters from the Dragonlance books, switching between them as you explore dungeons, fight monsters, and solve environmental puzzles. The main goal is to navigate through maze-like levels, defeat enemies in real-time combat, and eventually recover the Disks of Mishakal. Key mechanics include screen-by-screen exploration, using each character's unique weapons or spells, and managing limited health and magic. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with enemies respawning if you leave a screen. It feels like a rough but earnest attempt to translate a complex adventure into an 8-bit action game.
