Heroes of the Lance came out for the Sega Master System in 1991, published by U.S. Gold. It was one of the few games on the platform that tried to bring a party based dungeon crawler to a console better known for arcade style action. The game is based on the Dragonlance books, so if you knew the characters, it added a little something.

You control a party of up to eight characters, switching between them to use their unique abilities like healing or ranged attacks. The goal is to explore a series of dungeons, fighting monsters and solving simple puzzles to progress. Movement is screen by screen, and combat involves positioning your character and timing your sword swings or spell casts. The game is quite difficult, with limited resources and enemies that can overwhelm you quickly. It feels methodical and sometimes unforgiving, but there is satisfaction in clearing a tough room with careful planning.
