Play Ikari (Japan) Online

Your guy moves with this satisfying heft as you spray bullets everywhere—tanks, choppers, and soldiers just keep coming, so you hold down fire and hope for the best. The NES d-pad fights you a little, but plowing through jungles feels oddly good once it clicks.

Game Overview

Ikari III: The Rescue is one of those NES games that looks simple at first—just another top-down shooter where you mow down enemies with a machine gun. But there’s something weirdly satisfying about the way your guy moves, like he’s got actual weight to him instead of just sliding around the screen. The levels throw tanks, helicopters, and waves of soldiers at you, and sometimes you just have to hold down the fire button and pray.

It’s the third game in the Ikari Warriors series, but honestly, you don’t need to know the first two to get into this one. The controls take a second to adjust to (why does the D-pad feel so stiff?), but once you get the hang of it, blasting through jungles and bunkers has this old-school charm. Just don’t expect a deep story—it’s all about the chaos.
