Game Overview

Ikari Warriors came out in 1986 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a port of the original SNK arcade game. It was one of those early PC ports that tried to bring the arcade experience home, running on hardware that was just starting to handle action games with any real speed. You got a taste of the arcade chaos, but it was definitely a product of its time, with the limitations of the platform clear in its presentation and controls.

You control a lone commando, Ralf or Clark, moving upward through a dense jungle. Your main goal is to fight to the end of each stage, rescuing prisoners and destroying enemy emplacements. You start with a weak machine gun, but you can jump into enemy tanks and jeeps you find, which gives you much stronger firepower and protection. The screen scrolls automatically, forcing you to keep moving forward under constant fire from soldiers, helicopters, and bunkers. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is punishing; one hit kills you, and you have to manage very limited continues. It feels like a constant, tense struggle for survival where every inch of progress is earned.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
