Play Ikari Warriors III: The Rescue Online

You mostly punch and kick through waves of enemies—no tanks or cool weapons this time, just endless martial arts brawls that wear thin fast. The rotary joystick action’s still there, but it feels stripped down.

Game Overview

I remember picking up Ikari Warriors III: The Rescue back in 1989, part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup from SNK. It was a time when side-scrolling action games were everywhere, and this one tried to stand out by ditching the military theme for something more fantasy driven. It felt like a departure from the series, less about guns and grenades and more about hand-to-hand combat in a strange, mystical setting.

You control a lone warrior tasked with rescuing a kidnapped princess, moving screen by screen through enemy-filled jungles and temples. The main actions involve punching and kicking through waves of foes; there are no vehicles or complex weapons this time, just straightforward martial arts brawling. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming constantly, and the difficulty can feel punishing due to limited moves and repetitive encounters. Playing it gives a sense of grinding persistence rather than explosive action.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
