Ikari Warriors came out on the NES in 1986, developed by SNK and published by Data East. It was one of those early NES games that tried to bring the arcade experience home, with its military theme and straightforward action. You control a commando who moves upward through jungle and fortress environments, shooting enemy soldiers, tanks, and helicopters. Your main goal is to advance screen by screen, rescuing prisoners and gathering better weapons like flamethrowers and rocket launchers along the way. The game scrolls vertically, and you often have to clear areas of enemies before you can proceed. It is known for its high difficulty; enemies spawn constantly and can overwhelm you quickly. Playing it feels like a relentless push against an endless army, where every inch of progress is hard won.
