Game Overview

Inazuma Eleven is one of those weird, wonderful DS games that somehow makes soccer feel like an RPG adventure. You start off as this scrappy middle school team captain trying to rally your terrible squad into something respectable—which mostly involves running around town recruiting random kids who happen to have hidden soccer talents (the delinquent with a killer shot was my MVP).

The matches play out in this chaotic mix of turn-based strategy and quick button-mashing sequences when you pull off special moves. Nothing beats the first time your striker yells "Fire Tornado!" and the screen explodes in ridiculous anime-style flames. Half the fun is just seeing what absurd super-powered kicks your team will unlock next.

It’s janky in that very specific early DS way, but the charm totally holds up. Just don’t expect FIFA—this is soccer by way of shonen manga logic.
