Ishar: Legend of the Fortress came out in 1992 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup, developed by Silmarils. It was one of those ambitious fantasy RPGs from the era that tried to blend party management with real time exploration, standing out with its colorful VGA visuals and a focus on keeping your companions from mutiny.
You control a party of up to six adventurers, hiring them from taverns and managing their morale as you delve into a massive, multi-level fortress. Your main goal is to recover the pieces of the Crystal of Eternity, fighting monsters with swords and bows while navigating trap filled rooms and solving environmental puzzles. The game is known for its high difficulty; characters will argue, steal from you, or even desert if their needs are ignored. It feels tense and unpredictable, like herding cats through a dungeon.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
