Game Overview

Ishar - Legend of the Fortress is one of those old-school Amiga RPGs that feels like it’s trying to be three games at once—and somehow pulls it off. You start by assembling a party of misfits (good luck choosing between the grumpy dwarf and the overly dramatic elf), then dive into this weird mix of dungeon crawling, tactical combat, and fortress management. The graphics are charmingly clunky, and the music sticks in your head way longer than it should.

At first, the controls feel like they’re fighting you, but after an hour or so, it clicks—suddenly you’re obsessing over inventory slots and which mercenary to hire next. The world’s surprisingly big, too, with towns that actually feel alive instead of just being quest hubs. Just don’t expect hand-holding; this one’s happy to let you wander into a dragon pit unprepared.

If you’ve got the patience for its quirks, there’s something weirdly satisfying about building up your fortress while your party bickers in the background.
