I first played Jasper's Journeys back in 1997, when it came out as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection from PabaGames. It was one of those side-scrolling platformers that felt right at home in that era, with chunky pixel art and a simple but engaging setup. You don't see many games like it anymore, but at the time, it was a solid entry in the genre.
You control Jasper, a young hero on a quest to rescue his cat from a mischievous witch. The game plays out screen by screen, with each area presenting obstacles like acid drops and bouncing enemies that require careful timing to avoid. You collect fruit for energy and hunt for hidden paths and secret orbs, which encourage thorough exploration. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush, but the boss fights are especially memorable for demanding strategy over simple repetition. It feels satisfying to master each level's rhythm and uncover its secrets.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
