Jeopardy Jr. came out on the NES in 1987, developed by Rare and published by GameTek. It was part of that wave of licensed games and quiz show adaptations that filled out the library, aiming for a younger audience with simpler questions and a familiar TV format.

You don't control a character so much as you operate a menu, selecting categories and then typing out your answers letter by letter on a keyboard displayed at the bottom of the screen. The main objective is to answer questions correctly to earn money, just like the show, and then win the final round. The signature mechanics are the on-screen keyboard for input and the classic Jeopardy board of categories and dollar values. The pacing is slow, dictated by your typing speed, and the difficulty is entirely in the trivia, not any reflexes. It feels like a very deliberate, almost studious way to play a game.
