Blocky 8-bit Alex Trebek stares you down while you fumble with the NES controller to type "What is the Nile?"—somehow still feels like yelling answers at your TV as a kid.

Game Overview

I picked up Jeopardy! for the NES back in the day, a 1987 release from Rare. It was one of those early attempts to bring a TV game show to the console, sitting alongside other quiz and board game adaptations. The presentation was simple, with digitized versions of the set and host, but it captured the basic structure of the show well enough for what the hardware could do.

You play as a contestant, using the controller to move a cursor and select dollar amounts from the board. After a clue is read, you have to type out your response in the form of a question, which can be slow and awkward on an NES pad. The main goal is to outscore the two computer opponents across a full game, including Final Jeopardy. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes sluggish, especially during text entry, and the difficulty varies based on category selection. It feels authentic in spirit, but the interface reminds you it's very much an NES game.
