Game Overview

Jisedai Begoma Battle Beyblade came out for the Game Boy Color in Japan, developed by Koto Laboratory and published by Imagineer. It was part of that wave of tie-in games that tried to capture the energy of the anime and toy line, back when handhelds were all about condensed, pick-up-and-play experiences.

You control a Beyblade from a top-down view, customizing its parts before each match to adjust its balance and performance. The main goal is to win battles by either knocking your opponent out of the ring or making it stop spinning first. Signature mechanics include timing your launch for maximum power and using special moves that drain a meter but can turn the tide. Matches are quick but get tough fast, especially once enemy Beyblades start using aggressive patterns and unexpected attacks. It feels surprisingly tense for a game about spinning tops, especially when yours is on the verge of tipping over.
