Jungle Book on the NES came out in 1994, developed by Eurocom and published by Virgin Interactive. It was one of those later NES releases that tried to squeeze a bit more out of the aging hardware, offering a side-scrolling action platformer based on the Disney film. You don't see many licensed games from that era with such a clear visual style, and it stood out for its attempt to translate the movie's charm into 8-bit form.
You control Mowgli, navigating through jungle stages, avoiding enemies and environmental hazards. Your main goal is to progress through each level, eventually facing off against bosses like Kaa or Shere Khan. You throw fruit as your primary attack, and you can also swing from vines, which requires careful timing. The game is known for its high difficulty, with precise jumps and aggressive enemies making progress feel earned. It feels like a tense, sometimes unforgiving trek through a vibrant but dangerous world.
