Game Overview

Karting Grand Prix came out on the Amiga in 1988, developed by Anco Software and published by Kingsoft. It was one of the early kart racing games on the platform, arriving before the genre really exploded in popularity. The graphics were colorful for the time, and it offered a solid alternative to more serious racing sims.

You control a small kart from a top-down perspective, racing against computer opponents across eight different circuits. The main goal is straightforward: win each Grand Prix by finishing first across multiple laps. Two mechanics set it apart: you must manage tire wear, choosing between soft or hard compounds before each race to suit track conditions, and you can adjust the number of laps per race to tailor the length. The racing is fast and the AI provides a decent challenge, especially on later tracks. It feels satisfying to nail a tight corner and pull ahead on the final lap.
