Game Overview

I first came across Kirby in Sonic the Hedgehog as a Sega Genesis ROM hack, not an official release. It was one of those fan-made projects that circulated online, taking the familiar world of Sonic and giving it a strange, pink twist. The game doesn't have a developer or publisher in the traditional sense; it's a product of the modding community, built on the engine of an existing Sonic title. It fits right into that era of experimentation, where players started reshaping the games they loved.

You control Kirby, who moves through classic Sonic levels with his own set of physics. He can float by puffing up, which helps navigate tricky platform sections, and he inhales enemies to copy their abilities, much like in his own games. The main goal is still to reach the end of each act, but the pace feels different; it's less about pure speed and more about using Kirby's skills to survive hazards and enemies. The difficulty can be uneven, with some sections feeling awkward due to the collision or momentum, but pulling off a successful float or stealing a useful power from a badnik is satisfying. It feels like a playful, slightly broken crossover that shouldn't work as well as it sometimes does.
