Konchu Monster - Battle Master Stadium is one of those weird little GBA games that somehow slipped under everyone's radar. You're basically running a bug fight club—except your fighters are these adorably bizarre pixel-art insects with way too much personality for something that looks like a mutated beetle.

The combat's surprisingly deep for what seems like a simple turn-based system at first. I went in thinking I'd just mash buttons, but halfway through my third battle I realized I was actually sweating over whether to use my stag beetle's charge attack or save its energy for defense. The animations are tiny but full of charm, especially when your Konchu pulls off some ridiculous special move.

Fair warning: the menus are all in Japanese, but after a couple fights you'll start recognizing icons. There's something about the way the pixelated bugs scuttle around that makes the language barrier way less frustrating than it should be. If you've ever lost hours to Pokémon or Medabots, this obscure little cartridge might just steal your weekend.
