Game Overview

I picked up Kung Fu Panda for the Nintendo DS back in 2008, a time when licensed games were everywhere on the handheld. Activision published it, and it was one of those titles you'd grab if you enjoyed the movie and just wanted a bit more of that world. It fit right in with the era's library, not trying to reinvent the wheel but offering a straightforward, portable adventure.

You control Po, the panda, as he brawls his way through linear levels filled with enemy wolves and boars. The main goal is to fight through these stages, defeat bosses, and unlock new areas. Combat relies on tapping buttons for basic attacks and combos, while the touch screen is used for context-specific actions, like deflecting projectiles or activating special moves. You also collect coins to upgrade your abilities, which adds a light layer of progression. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty is manageable, never too punishing but with a few spots that require some repetition. It feels like a simple, satisfying beat-'em-up that captures the humor and energy of the film.
